Getting Started with ShopSheets

This guide will help you install ShopSheets and create your first synchronized spreadsheet.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • A Shopify store (any plan)
  • A Google account
  • A browser that allows popup windows (needed for Google sign-in)

Step 1: Install ShopSheets from Shopify App Store

  1. Visit the ShopSheets listing in the Shopify App Store
  2. Click Install App
  3. Review and approve the requested permissions:
    • Read orders
    • Write products
    • Read fulfillments
  4. You'll be redirected to the ShopSheets dashboard

Step 2: Connect Your Google Account

  1. In the ShopSheets dashboard, you'll see a Not Connected badge
  2. Click the Connect Google Account button
  3. A popup window will open with Google OAuth
  4. Select your Google account
  5. Review and approve the requested permissions:
    • Create and manage Google Sheets
    • Access Google Drive files
    • Add automation scripts to your spreadsheet
  6. After approval, you'll see a success message: "Google account connected successfully"
  7. The badge will change to Connected (green)

Troubleshooting: If the popup doesn't open, check that your browser allows popups for this site.

Step 3: Create Your First Sheet

  1. In the dashboard, click the Create Orders Sheet button
  2. Wait 10-30 seconds while ShopSheets fetches your order data
    • The initial sync includes the past 30 days of orders
    • For stores with many orders, this may take up to a minute
  3. The sheet will open automatically in a new tab
  4. You'll see your order data starting from row 6, with filters in rows 1-2

What you'll see:

  • Row 1: Filter labels (Date Range, Status, Sort By, Sort Order)
  • Row 2: Filter dropdowns (click to change filters)
  • Row 5: Column headers (Order Number, Date, Customer, Total, etc.)
  • Row 6+: Your order data

Step 4: Enable Auto-Sync (Recommended)

Auto-sync allows filter changes to automatically trigger data refreshes.

  1. In your sheet, look for the ShopSheets menu in the toolbar
    • If you don't see it, reload the sheet (Ctrl/Cmd + R)
  2. Click ShopSheetsSetup Auto-Sync
  3. Grant Apps Script permissions when prompted (one-time setup)
  4. You'll see a success message: "Auto-sync enabled"

Now when you change filters in row 2, the data will automatically refresh within 2 seconds.

Quick Tips

  • Real-time updates: New orders appear in your sheet within 1-2 minutes (via webhooks)
  • Manual refresh: Use ShopSheets menu → Refresh Data to sync immediately
  • Multiple sheets: Create separate sheets for Products and Fulfillments from the dashboard
  • Share with team: Use standard Google Sheets sharing to collaborate
  • Formulas: You can add formulas, but avoid editing data columns (A-M, rows 6+)
