HTML to Plain Text
Strip HTML tags from Shopify product body exports and get clean plain text. Lists become dashes, paragraphs become line breaks.
About this tool
HTML to plain text strips the markup out of Shopify product body exports and returns clean, readable text. Bullet lists become dashes, paragraphs become line breaks, and tags like <strong> and <a> disappear while their text stays.
Product descriptions in Shopify are stored as HTML. When you export them to a CSV or move them to another platform, that raw markup makes the text hard to read and edit. This tool gives you the plain version to rewrite, spell-check, or paste somewhere that does not accept HTML.

Frequently asked questions
- Does it keep my lists and paragraphs?
- Yes. List items become dash-prefixed lines and block elements become line breaks, so the structure survives even though the tags are gone.
- What happens to links?
- The visible link text is kept and the surrounding <a> tag is removed. The URL itself is dropped, since plain text cannot carry a clickable link.
- Is this the reverse of a text-to-HTML tool?
- It only strips HTML; it does not add markup. To rebuild formatting for Shopify, you would re-add it in the rich text editor.
