About this tool

CSV to Markdown converts spreadsheet data into a GitHub-flavored Markdown table. Paste rows or upload a file, and the first row becomes the header with the divider line added underneath.

Markdown tables are the standard for README files, docs, and issue trackers, but writing the pipe characters by hand is fiddly. This does the alignment for you so the raw Markdown stays readable. It runs locally in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Is the output GitHub-flavored Markdown?
Yes. It uses the pipe-and-dash table syntax GitHub renders, which also works in most Markdown editors and static site generators.
What happens to commas inside a cell?
Quoted CSV fields are parsed correctly, so a value like "Smith, Jane" stays in one cell instead of splitting into two columns.
Can I upload a file instead of pasting?
Yes. Upload a CSV and the tool reads it the same way as pasted text.
