The bulk alt text generator builds SEO-friendly image alt attributes from a product name, an image type, and your brand. Fill a row per image, pick the type such as main, lifestyle, detail, packaging, back, or side, and export the descriptions as a CSV.

Alt text describes an image for screen readers and search engines. Shopify stores an alt field on every product image, but filling hundreds by hand is slow, and empty alt text hurts both accessibility and image search rankings. Generating a first draft in bulk gets you most of the way there.

How to use it

Frequently asked questions

What makes good alt text for a product image?

Describe what the image shows in plain language, include the product name, and keep it under about 125 characters. Skip "image of" since screen readers already announce it as an image.

Should every product image have unique alt text?

Yes. A main shot, a detail shot, and a packaging shot of the same product should each describe what that specific image shows, not repeat the same line. That is why the image type changes the generated text.

How do I add the alt text to Shopify?

Edit an image and fill the alt field, or include an Image Alt Text column in a product CSV import. The exported CSV lines up with that column.
