About this tool
Shopify's monthly plan fee is the sticker price, but it isn't what an order actually costs you. Every sale also pays a payment processing fee — a percentage of the order plus a flat per-transaction charge — and if you use a gateway other than Shopify Payments, an extra surcharge on top. This calculator rolls both together so you can see the true cost of a single order and your real effective fee as a percentage of revenue.
Pick your plan to pre-fill the standard rates, then adjust anything to match your own bill — the presets are a starting point, not gospel, since Shopify's pricing shifts and varies by region and contract. Everything runs locally in your browser. To turn real order data into margins, pair this with the Profit Margin Report, or reshape an export for your books with the Orders to QuickBooks/Xero Converter.

Frequently asked questions
- How is the true cost per order calculated?
- Each order pays a processing fee — the card rate times the order value, plus a flat per-transaction fee. On top of that, the calculator spreads your fixed monthly plan fee across the month's orders, so a single order carries its share of the subscription too. Add the two and you get the true cost per order.
- Are the plan prices and rates accurate?
- They seed the fields with standard US pricing as of September 2026, but Shopify changes its rates and they vary by region and contract — Plus especially. Treat the presets as a starting point and overwrite any field with the numbers on your own Shopify bill for an exact result.
- What is the third-party gateway surcharge?
- If you use a payment gateway other than Shopify Payments, Shopify adds an extra percentage on every transaction — 2% on Basic, 1% on Shopify, and 0.6% on Advanced. Tick the third-party box to fold that surcharge into the effective rate.
- Does this include shipping, apps, or chargeback fees?
- No. It covers the two fees every order pays — plan subscription and payment processing. Shipping labels, paid apps, chargebacks, and currency conversion aren't included, so your real all-in cost may be a little higher.
- Does my data leave my browser?
- No. The whole calculation runs in your browser — nothing is sent anywhere. Want your real order totals tracked automatically instead of estimating? ShopSheets syncs your Shopify orders straight into Google Sheets.
