Profit Margin Report

See which products and orders actually make money. Paste a Shopify export with a cost column and get revenue, cost, profit, and margin % — all in your browser.

Needs price and quantity columns plus a Cost per item, COGS, or Cost column.

About this tool

A Shopify order export tells you what you sold, but not what you kept. This profit margin report reads a Shopify order or product CSV that includes a cost (COGS) column and works out revenue, cost, profit, and margin percentage for every product or every order — so the items quietly losing money stop hiding inside a healthy top-line total.

Add a Cost per item column to your export, paste it in, and pick a grouping. Everything runs locally in your browser. To reshape the same export for your books, use the Orders to QuickBooks/Xero Converter; to pull cost and price columns together first, reach for the Column Extractor and CSV Merger.

How to use it

  1. Add a cost columnExport your Shopify orders (or products), then add a Cost per item / COGS column so each line knows its unit cost.
  2. Paste and groupPaste the CSV below and choose whether to break profit down by product or by order.
  3. Read the marginsSee revenue, cost, profit, and margin % per line — then copy or download the report.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the cost (COGS) come from?
Shopify's order export doesn't include cost, so add a column named Cost per item, COGS, or Cost before pasting. Shopify's product export already has a Cost per item column you can copy over, or you can pull unit costs with the Column Extractor and merge them in with the CSV Merger.
How is margin calculated?
For each line item, revenue = quantity × unit price and cost = quantity × unit cost. Profit is revenue minus cost, and margin % is profit divided by revenue. Rows are rolled up per product or per order and sorted by profit, so your best and worst performers surface first.
What if I don't have a cost column?
The report still runs — you'll see revenue and units per product or order, with cost and profit showing as zero and a note that no cost column was found. Add a cost column to get true margins.
Does shipping, tax, or discounts factor in?
No. The report works from line-item price and cost so product margins stay clean. Handle shipping and tax in your accounting app — convert the same export for that with the Orders to QuickBooks/Xero Converter linked below.
Does my data leave my browser?
No. Everything is computed in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Want these numbers refreshed automatically instead of re-pasting each week? ShopSheets syncs your Shopify orders straight into Google Sheets.
