About this tool

The duplicate order detector scans a Shopify order export and flags any order ID or email that shows up more than once. Duplicate order numbers usually mean an export or spreadsheet merge went wrong; repeated emails point to customers who ordered twice — sometimes by accident, sometimes a test order you meant to delete.

Because a Shopify export lists one row per line item, the tool collapses each order to a single record before counting, so a normal three-item order never looks like three duplicates. Everything runs locally in your browser. Found duplicates you want gone? Clear them with the CSV Deduplicator, or compare two exports side by side with the Shopify CSV Diff.

How to use it

  1. Drop your order exportAdd the Shopify order CSV you exported from Orders → Export.
  2. Pick the column to checkChoose Email to catch repeat customers, or the order number column to catch duplicated IDs.
  3. Review and downloadFlagged rows are grouped by their repeated value — copy or download the report.

Frequently asked questions

Why aren't my multi-item orders flagged as duplicates?
A Shopify order export repeats the order number once per line item, so a three-item order spans three rows. "Ignore repeated line-item rows" collapses each order to a single record before checking, so a normal multi-line order is never mistaken for a duplicate. Turn it off to inspect every raw row.
Should I check by order ID or by email?
Check by order number (the Name column) to catch genuinely duplicated order IDs — usually an export or merge glitch. Check by Email to surface customers who placed more than one order, which helps spot accidental repeat purchases or test orders.
Is matching case-sensitive?
No. Values are compared case-insensitively, so JANE@EXAMPLE.COM and jane@example.com count as the same customer. Blank values are ignored rather than grouped together.
Does my data leave my browser?
No. Detection runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Once you've found the duplicates, remove them with the CSV Deduplicator, turn the clean export into invoices with the Orders to QuickBooks/Xero Converter, or keep orders flowing into a sheet with ShopSheets.
